Tom Terrific
There wasn’t much this organization did right a few years back.
During the late Steve Phillips/Jim Duquette days that is.
But I think it’s time to say bringing longtime-Brave Tom Glavine into the fold after the 2002 season has paid dividends.
No, it didn’t look that way in the beginning, but if you ask me, time has proven otherwise.
He’s won 48 games in his four seasons in blue and orange.
Posted impressive ERAs of 3.60, 3.54, and 3.82.
Averaged 32.5 starts a year here.
Saved our bacon with three big games in the playoffs.
He’s the dean of a young pitching staff that desperately needs an anchor and, as the longest-tenured Met, is the leader of our clubhouse.
Not bad for a guy who looked like he was shot a few years back.
Glavine pitched another three scoreless innings against the Astros yesterday. Two weeks into camp his changeup looks ready to go. (And don’t fret it when he gets shelled this month. He always throws one spring training stinker.)
At 41, he's bound to slow down eventually and we need him to be an ace more than ever. Still, I have no doubt he’ll respond.
And at $10M he’s a relative bargain.
- Willie Randolph says first base prospect Mike Carp (5 RBI yesterday) reminds him of Nick Johnson.
- Chan Ho Park is expected to make his Grapefruit League debut today against the Red Sox.
- Carlos Delgado has a stiff neck.

I was one of Glavine's biggest detractors for his first 2 years in New York, but over the past season and a half he's made a believer of me. To reinvent yourself in your late thirties isn't easy. And he's been very reliable.
Is Julio Franco the only backup for Carlos Delgado, if for some reason he gets hurt?

To say that Glavine is the longest tenured Met, a long time hated Brave, makes me think I'm living in a bizarro world where the Mets win the NL East and the Braves don't make the playoffs. It took awhile for me to warm up to Tommy G but hey, He's a Met now in my eyes.....until he gets shelled then I'll say he'll always be a Brave.

EC... Down on Julio? Personally, I think it's time for Franco to decide on his own to become a coach and step off the active roster. He going to take a spot from a younger player... maybe a Ben Johnson. As for your question, i'm hoping Lastings Milledge wins the rightfield job and Shawn Green goes to the bench as Delgado's backup. He's got some 1B experience...
YVaithe... took me a while to warm up to Glavine as well. To his credit, he was stuck on some pretty bad teams early on and still managed to post double-digit wins. I think he became a Met in my eyes when he was so clutch in the playoffs. He really did bail us out...

I am now very content we still have Tommy this year. With so many question marks in our starting rotation and some shifts in the pen, having Glavine still is a calming factor. I think he will be very instrumental in mentoring the kids. I was a little concerned when he was toying with the idea of going back to Atlanta after last season. But it all turned out for the good.
I was wondering about the Delgado/Franco arrangement myself. Kind of puts a little risk into that spot now that EC pointed it out.
I cannot wait to see how Park performs today too.

First of all how the heck did Tim Wakefield shutout the mets for three innings today? He is the last one in our rotation I would except to do that! But,I liked it!I am liking what I see out of Tom Glavine this spring. At least he is a guy that we can count on in the rotation.park didnt pitch horrible today I just wish the walks werent so high:)

Lee Ellen... looks like Park hung in there, even though he was on the ropes in the first inning. I just hope Mike Pelfrey wins this job decisively (he pitches again today). I'd much rather watch the kid than Park.
Kaylee... the Met lineup is definetly not clicking on all cylinders yet. But they are vets and I'm sure they'll get it together soon. Who's that kid who hit the grand slam off of Burgos? lol
