So what'd I miss?

All in all, not a bad couple of days.
While I was on a weekend jaunt to New Jersey, it seems the Mets got a few really good vibes out of their starting Mainenew_2 rotation.
First off, Pedro got the OK to start throwing, which he’s expected to do today. He’s still eyeing a July comeback, but the fact that his rehab is coming along so well is a great sign. The thought of Petey returning at full strength to contribute in August and September isn’t a pipe dream anymore. And if that happens, you can forget that tomfoolery about our rotation being too thin.
Next, rookie-turned-October-hero John Maine continues to build on his solid 2006 season. The kid’s been working with Tom Glavine to improve a changeup to keep hitters off balance and make that sneaky fastball of his even harder to zero in on. Anyone here starting to see this kid with frond-end potential? I read a scout last week who thought he could be better than Mike Pelfrey and Philip Humber.
And speaking of The Giant Pelfrey, his scoreless outing Saturday was encouraging. Hitters were pounding his sinking fastball and slider into the ground. That was rookie sensation Justin Verlander’s recipe for success in Detroit last season. Maybe Mike can use it and do some cooking of his own with it in Shea this year.

Mets in the news

  • David Wright says he’ll change positions to accommodate A-Rod if he came to the Mets after the season. Uh... thanks but no thanks, David.
  • Philip Humber got roughed up in his spring debut.
  • Newsday’s Shaun Powell says the Mets are one of the five best run teams in baseball. I dunno about you, but I never get tired of reading stories like this.

Mets in '07!

I'm amazed thaT we've turned around as much as we have in so little time. Let's face it, our Mets aren't known as a winning franchise. When we win it's only in short spurts followed by long stretches of losing. I'm giddy with hearing how the Mets have turned that corner but they have to keep winning. They need to be seen as a powerhouse for the long term like the Yanks (gasp!) or even the hideous Braves (ok shoot me). We may be on the threshold of the greatest stretch in franchise history. And let me say that it would be something we ALL deserve as PROUD METS FANS!!!

Kathryn's Grandpa, Pa Larry,
Thanks for the plug, great weekend, I agree that the Mets have turned the corner. Mets organization has reached into the deep pockets and are paying some big dollars, The talent is there,

Meet the Mets in '07, I feel like it's the old world series Mets again! You got to believe! Pa Larry

The day A-Rod joins the Mets--and David Wright switches positions to accommodate him--is the day I become a Tampa Bay Devil Rays fan. (In other words, it's never happening.)

I still maintain that it's wise not to expect much from Pedro this year. It would be awesome if he does contribute. Maine is a tough kid. I like him a lot and I'm hoping for double-digit wins from him this year.

Umm David Wright You wont have to worry about that for awhile----at least I hope:)

Eddie,
I cant believe what David said abour Pay-Rod. He is a traitor, Maybe he hasnt read my blog in a while with my hatred for Arod. Hopefully he will come to his senses as probably many mets, Including Loduca were telling him how much of a jerk Arod is and can be on your team.

As for this season, I have not been watching too much Spring Training but i was thinking of flying down for a game or two. But hopefully you,the wife, the baby are doing fine and i need a 27 day nap until opening day .

All My Best,

John

YVaithe... And think, it may only get better. Our best young pitching prospects (Pelfrey, Humber) haven't arrived yet and we've three outfielders (Milledge, Gomez, Martinez) who could be franchise faces in the outfield. Gotta keep winning is right. But Omar's done an amazing job turning us from laughingstock to model.

Dad... thanks for stopping by! The Wilpons have been doing the job paying to bring the right guys here (Beltran, Delgado, Pedro, Wagner) and keeping our homegrown talent as well (Wright, Reyes). On top of that, they've learned what not to spend on. The $126M/8-year contract the Giants gave a nice but unspectacular pitcher like Barry Zito was crazy and will cripple them in a few years...

EC/Kaylee... he's talented, but we need the A-Rod circus like we need a hole in the head. And we definetly ain't moving our best player to bring him here! (Besides... I enjoy watching him sweat it out in the Bronx Zoo!)

John... maybe you can have a word w/ David next time you see him. Tell him Met Nation HATES A-Rod! We've already got the best third baseman in the city... we don't need Rodriguez. Have fun if you go to Port St. Lucie.. I'm jealous!

Hey there Edd! Just cruising around in between Spring Training games! ;) Anyway I have been following the action and the whole "prospect" playing going on in PSL. I was there last Sat...
I will be going to Space Coast on Sat to see them play the Nats.

A-Rod? No-Rod. The Mets may use talent but that's something every team can use. They just don't need the drama and Dear David needs to know that he's not going anywhere.

Like always love the Blog.

Best wishes to you, to the wifey and Lucky Charm.
