Size doesn't matter... still not a bad game
Spring training is about trying new things, right?
You've got Mike Pelfrey working on a slider. David Wright trying his hand at the No. 2 hole. Usually overweight Alay Soler eating a salad.
All new experiences. Figured I'd get into the act as well.
So I used yesterday’s game to try out the picture-in-picture package I just had the cable company install in my television.
SpongeBob for Kathryn and the Mets (albeit, much, much smaller) for me.
This is gonna take some getting used to.
OK... enough about the sacrifices of fatherhood. On to yesterday's game!

He turned heads
Oliver Perez. A nice rebound from last week. He gave up a run in 3 IP with 3 Ks. Know what I liked best? No walks. In fact, when you look at his two playoff starts and his two outings this spring, it seems pitching coach Rick Peterson has somehow cut down on his wildness — long Oliver’s Achilles heel.

Turned stomachs
Not much to report here. Wouldn’t mind seeing Moises Alou and Shawn Green start getting on base — both are hitless this spring — but ideally, you don’t want your team to peak until the final week or so of camp, so we've got plenty of time.

Quote of the day
"That was pretty amazing... I think we all talk about his offense, but I think he is going to win a Gold Glove this year. " — Willie Randolph on Jose Reyes in today's Daily News. The shortstop made a diving play in the fourth inning.

Mets in '07!

I saw parts of the game on replay last night. Oliver Perez looked good, but Alay Soler looked absolutely sensational. It would be a real boon to the Mets if Soler kept pitching like this - even if he ended up in the pen while Duaner Sanchez continues to rehab.

You ever notice you never see Patrick and Oliver Perez in the same place? :-)

Yes, Soler is the sleeper here. No one was really figuring him in the equation and it is a wonderful surprise to see him shine. I liked his stuff last year and he continues to impress.
Shawn Green look anemic (sorry Kaylee) - even looks afraid of the ball.
Loved the Kathryn experiment above, Eddie. She is sure a sweetie.
Lets go Mets!!!

Hi Eddie, saw the news, last night, looks like a tough loss for the Mets. Very early yet, we'll come together, not to worry!
Kathryn really needs to be in movies, so beautiful!

EC... Soler is in shape and ready to pitch. He's gonna have to bring it to head north though... I think the team was down on him about his conditioning last season. But he's off to a great start. He'll get a chance at some point this year... if not April.
Diane... now that you mention it, you may be onto something. I think it's in the chin, no? lol
Lee Ellen... you've had your eye on Soler when most (myself included) had written him off. His heart is in this right now, that's for sure. As for Green, he'd better step it up, bacause Lastings Milledge is coming on strong.
Pa Larry... in a perfect world a team gets hot mid-to-late March and carries it into a season. On the bright side, we're not wasting any bullets right now lol.

The Sawx play the Mets in Fort Myers today... take it easy on Chan Ho Park, would ya? (Or maybe I should be hoping you guys smack him around so Mike Pelfrey can win the fifth spot... hmmmm)
