What the heck? At this point, let the kids pitch
Omar is sliding all his chips to the middle of the table and rolling the dice on a couple of kids who throw hard.

Jorge Sosa and southpaw Scott Schoeneweiss — our fearless leader made it clear he expects to start the season with a starting rotation of Tom Glavine, Orlando Hernandez, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Mike Pelfrey. We’ll have Philip Humber, Jason Vargas, Alay Soler, Sosa and Kevin Mulvey in reserve.
And the GM’s cool with that.
It’s becoming clear Minaya’s baseball philosophy is to stack the bullpen, build a strong offense and hope whoever you’ve got starting can give you six solid innings.
He began last season with a bunch of graying junk-ballers and came within a hit of the World Series.
Let’s hope it works with the kids.

Mets in ‘07!

I think stacking the bullpen is a sound strategy in today's baseball world, where starters usually don't pass the 6th inning even on a good day. Let's hope it works as well in 2007 as it did in 2006.
I'm glad Endy Chavez is back in the fold. I was uncertain of his status. Even considering that his stats will probably drop significantly in 2007, he's the ideal fourth outfielder, and quite honestly, he runs figure-eights around Shawn Green.
Speaking of arbitration-eligibles, did you hear that Dontrelle Willis got just $6.45 mil from Florida? That's ridiculous. If I were Dontrelle in this pitching market, I would taken Florida to the cleaners. He could have asked for $12-$13 million and won. And it would have hastened his departure out of Miami. They have no fans, no stadium, they gut the team whenever they start to get good. Why would anyone want to play there?
